Singapore Incandescent #5
Last Contract (This is Part 1. Part 2, posted earlier, is here #thelastcontract02)
is the place'
'I know you like the delicacies perfected by our friends in Mashriq.'
'I do. It was Mussa Ben Mbiki who returned me to this cuisine.'
'You were with him on the maiden voyage?'
'Yes. And I think in many ways, I never returned from that place. This was long before the Portuguese made a sport of skewering heads.'
'Have you been there in recent times?'
'I was a coal miner in Tete for some time, part of the study that Thornton conducted for Livingstone.'
'This must be around the time of the first rebellion back home?'
'The War of Independence you mean!' The Man growled.
'Pardon my British.'
The Man ignored his Host.
'The vibe here is good.'
'It always is. Shen envisioned it that way.'
'How is old Bjorn?'
'Busy being rebellious,' laughed the Host. The Chef (@bjornshen) who created this restaurant was a bit of a character.
'Well at least someone's being the way they are,' The Man said quietly, his voice dipped in longing for a long deserved freedom. He continued as he surveyed the diners, though it was difficult to gauge if what he said was a compliment, 'The people here are easy on the eyes.'
'And the food is pure orgasm my weary friends,' said The MC at Artichoke, a beaming old (or young depending on the vantage) Singaporean gentleman, as he presented the Menu to The Man and his Host.
The Man looked at the gentleman as if he were a part of the decor, which he was, fitting in perfect gestalt. One of the last few organic people in the tradition of hospitality, he certainly personified the spirit of this quaint modern eatery, tucked away in a little corner in the middle of Singapore.
