Reason or logic is overrated. Many people think they can use reason to change disadvantageous patterns in their life. They cannot do that. In order to modify disadvantageous behaviors and thoughts A person must describe and modify what they believe to be real. John C. Lilly elucidated techniques for a person to describe and change self meta-programs or beliefs-in-real. What one believes to be real controls one's emotions and reactions. The reactions control how one feels and one's feelings control logic.

I throw a fit
No one loves me
I get what I want
You can't make me
I'm abandoned "After 10 years in the tank I formulated a working rule:
Whatever one believes to be true either is true or becomes true in one's own mind, within limits to be determined experimentally and experientially. These limits themselves are, in turn, beliefs to be transcended. The limits of one's beliefs set the boundaries for possible experience. So every time you reach a limiting belief it must be examined and gone beyond. For the explorer there are no final true beliefs. " -John C. Lilly
As Lilly states above, what we believe is true or becomes true. Some of what we believe can be very limiting for us as we go through life trying to accomplish goals that we set for ourselves. Those beliefs also affect our relationships with other people. In unique environments, such as in an isolation flotation tank, we are able to change them to something that better serves us in what we are looking to accomplish ourselves and with other people.
