Have you ever seen a car wreck and you just have to slow down to see what happened?? And in doing see you become apart of the problem by adding to the ever congested area.... Gossip works the same way, which is why it's number 5 out of the 10 things to abandon for spiritual growth.
Unfortunately, paying attention to the wrong thing, will morph into paying attention to the wrong things in others. Which can lead to me talking about them.
I have to remember, daily, that my words have power. In James 3:9 it says, "Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God," which simply means with our tongues we speak both praise and curses. We praise our Lord, and we curse people who were created to be like God. This isn't right. .
To abandon gossip I must remember to not let corrupt communication proceed from my mouth, but only that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. (Ephesians 4:29)
Prayer: God, let my words be positive and encouraging. Give me confidence in You so I don't feel the need to put others down. Help me to understand and use my words to serve and build others up and to have an eternal impact on their lives.
