As the party wound down and all our friends and family started to filter out of the house, I busied myself cleaning the kitchen. I had my little girl beside me handing me dishes to rinse and clean, all the while talking my ear off. She was only two but she was quite the rambler, telling me absolutely everything and nothing in a string of heavily accented words that didn't always mean what she thought they meant. I always thought that y/n was the love of my life but then we had our daughter and I realized I'd never love anything as much as this little munchkin. "Did you enjoy the party?" I asked her as she handed me the plate the cake had been sat on, stealing some of the leftover frosting on her finger before I put it in the sink. After licking her finger clean she launched herself in an animated response to my question, rambling some more until y/n came to join us. "There you two are, I thought I'd lost you." She chuckled and came to our side, our youngest child in her arms. "It's time for bed, love." A classic two-year-old tantrum thus ensued but y/n handled it marvelously, simply insisting the matter wasn't up for debate. "C'mon, munchkin, I'll tuck you in." I told her as I turned off the faucet, dried my hands and picked her up. She kept trying to convince me to let her stay awake as I brought her upstairs to her room where we went about our whole nighttime routine. I got her into pajamas and brushed her teeth and got her all snuggled up in bed with her favorite blankets and pillows and stuffed animals, all the while she gave me a million reasons not to turn the light off. "Wait!" She screamed as I went for the light switch. In the time it took me to groan and roll my eyes she'd finagled her way out of bed and had attached herself- perhaps permanently- to my legs. "You have to sleep, baby girl, you can't just stay awake forever." I told her as I began to pry her little chubby fingers off my legs. "But I'll miss you!" She whined and buried her face in my thigh so I couldn't see her tears as her little hands shook against my pants. I sighed and crouched down, replacing the hold she had on my legs for one around my neck.
