When I first got the Twins, it didn't take them long to realize the kitchen was the source of all things tasty and tummy-filling. Their lack of socialization, however, meant that they were still scared of everything. They ran away in fear whenever I had something in my hand, like a whisk or a spatula. They would often gather at the doorway and watch me, though, their curiosity outweighing their fear. To help them be better acclimated to the human world, I started including them in my household chores. For example, while emptying the dishwasher, I would hold each utensil out and place it on the ground so they could come sniff it on their own terms. I rewashed a lot of dishes and took ages to clean the kitchen, but it paid off. Gradually, the Twins got used to all the scary kitchen gadgets, and now they're my little sous chefs for each meal. I never get tired of turning around and seeing their hopeful faces at my hip, begging to taste-test dinner. .
